Project Overview
As part of Waree Energies' development at Thoothukudi, a robust internal road network with shoulders was required to support heavy equipment movement, logistics, and long-term operations. AARAA Infrastructure was appointed as the civil contractor for Phase 1 of the road & shoulder works, delivering a durable pavement structure designed for industrial loading and coastal conditions.
The project involved end-to-end execution from subgrade preparation to the final asphalt seal, including drainage and safety infrastructure such as culverts, storm water drains, road markings and signages. Strict quality controls were followed for layer thickness, compaction and materials to ensure long-life performance.
Scope of Work
- Preparing subgrade, GSB and WMM layers along with road shoulders.
- Construction of storm water drains to safely channel surface runoff.
- Provision of culverts at crossings and low-lying stretches.
- Surface treatments, asphalt overlays and sealcoat application.
- Road marking lanes, stop lines and directional arrows as per standards.
- Installation of road signages for safety and wayfinding.
- Providing road furniture such as kilometre stones and other markers.
Execution Highlights
Work was executed in an active industrial environment with precise coordination between client operations and construction activities. AARAA deployed experienced site engineers and survey teams to ensure correct alignments, slopes and drainage.
- Quality-controlled sourcing of aggregates and asphalt mix.
- Layer-wise field density tests to confirm compaction levels.
- Use of tandem rollers and pavers for uniform finish.
- Night-time and early-morning work windows to avoid production disruption.
The completed Phase 1 stretch now supports efficient vehicular circulation within the facility, with improved safety, drainage and riding comfort. The works were completed within agreed timelines and specifications, meeting the client's operational readiness targets.
